Kapalua Wedding Elopement at Ironwoods

Some people meet at work, through friends, or on an app. But for Grace and Peter, they crossed paths in a Russian film class during their sophomore year of college. If that’s not the most unexpectedly cool way to meet your person, I don’t know what is. Fast forward a few years, and they had a nighttime proposal at Niagara Falls—which sounds like a movie moment. They knew they wanted something personal and unique for their wedding, and nothing felt more right than a quiet, intimate Kapalua wedding elopement on the cliffs of Ironwoods Beach.

The weather was perfect. The waves were rolling in, the sun was shining, and the breeze made its presence known as it always seems to do. If you’re considering eloping here, know that wind is part of the package (more on that later).

The Ceremony at ironwoods cliffs

Grace and Peter’s ceremony was simple and meaningful. It was just the two of them, standing at the edge of the world, exchanging vows with the ocean below. The wind picked up a little, adding movement to her dress, and the late afternoon sun gave us a warm, golden glow.

After the ceremony, we stayed on the cliffs for some photos. Then, we made a quick stop at Honolua Bay Jungle, which is basically the polar opposite of the rugged cliffs. Think deep green, tropical wilderness—a perfect contrast to the beach setting. This spot is 100% worth the extra time if you’re eloping at Ironwoods. (Seriously, book more than an hour if you want variety in your photos. You won’t regret it.)

What to Expect When Eloping at Ironwoods

1. Expect Some Wind

Kapalua isn’t known for its calm, still air. It’s breezy, sometimes really breezy—especially on the cliffs. But instead of fighting it, embrace it. Wear a flowing dress and a hairstyle that works with the wind, and let it add to the cinematic vibe.

2. Book More Than an Hour for Photos

Ironwoods is stunning, but it’s worth adding time to hit up Honolua Bay Jungle for a completely different look if you want variety. It’s only a short drive away, and trust me—it’s worth it.

3. Have Your Ceremony on the Cliffs

There’s truly no better backdrop than the cliffs at Ironwoods. It feels private, the views are unreal, and it doesn’t require any complicated permits or setups. Just show up, soak it in, and get married in an epic place.
